Member Spotlight: Greg’s Mid-80s Ciocc

Welcome to our new series, Member Spotlight, where we feature some of the incredible bikes  and members that roll through the Marin Museum of Bicycling. Whether it’s a rare build, a well-loved daily rider, or something with a great backstory, we love seeing what our members are passionate about.

First up: Greg and his pristine Ciocc!

Tell us about your bike!

My Ciocc is a 1984 model with a full Campy group set. It is panagraphed in Italian colors, including the chainring, stem, seatpost, shift and brake levers, and brake calipers. The bike is finished in anthracite.

How did you acquire it and how long have you had it?

I purchased it new in 1985 from Dave’s Bike Sport in Santa Rosa. I’ve owned it for 40 years!

What changes or modifications have you made?

It originally had sew-up tires, but I changed to clinchers very soon after buying it. All of the parts are original, with the exception being the replacement brake hoods (OEM ) and the Vittoria Corsa tires. I also went with a larger freewheel, better for the hills, and now it has a Campy titanium freewheel.

What makes this bike special to you?

It is very special to me, from an era where steel bikes were king. It’s one bike that I would never sell, and it is in showroom condition.

Where do you love riding it the most?

I don’t ride it too often, and I stay away from the hills, as were many of this era of Italian bikes, it came with a 42-52 chainrings. I did complete 3 or 4 Davis Doubles on the bike, 200 miles in one day! And also club rides with Marin Cyclists, and other Bay Area century rides.
