Most events are suitable for the whole family. Members of Marin Museum of Bicycling usually get discounted or free admission to events.

Have you visited the museum yet? Museum admission is included in each event’s ticket price. Your purchases directly support our nonprofit and its educational programs.

A visit to the museum in downtown Fairfax is fascinating for cyclists and non-cyclists alike. If you’re here for a museum event, plan to spend some time taking in the sights and sounds of our favorite small town. Enjoy one of the town’s many fine eateries and then be ready to head on over to the museum!

If you plan to be in the area in late summer, check out our signature event—the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. The mountain bike community’s celebration of the year honors people who have made extraordinary contributions to our sport. It’s a weekend filled with great rides, food, drink, friends, cycling royalty and talented people from all over the world.

From City to Wildlands: Rides to Iconic Off-Road Adventure Destinations

    7:00 pmMarin Museum of Bicycling

Why not just walk out your door, get on your bike and pedal into the wild? For local rides, most cyclists do exactly that. But what about faraway destinations? A trio of Adventure Cyclists took on the challenge of finding multi-use dirt trails and riding from major cities to world-class places of recreation. Kurt Gensheimer, James Adamson and Justin Schwartz call their group The Commute Crew.

In this talk, Kurt, James and Justin use video and photography to highlight two backcountry mountain bike rides, each a week long: A 420-mile adventure from Lake Tahoe to San Francisco, and a 421-mile trek from Salt Lake City to Moab, Utah. Both rides incorporated as much singletrack as possible. They show what can be done now, and share ideas for better access and more infrastructure. Their talk will inspire the adventurous soul while asking the question, "what can we do to better connect where we live with where we recreate?"

8:30 am - 2:30 pmMarin Museum of Bicycling - 1966 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Fairfax, CA 94930
EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO RAINY WEATHER! Meet at Flywheel coffee for a quick cup of java, if you’d like. We’ll take off on our bikes from the coffee shop at 9am sharp – please do not be late. We’ll ride 21 miles to the Marin Museum of Bicycling in Fairfax. Check out the museum ($10 entrance fee) and take a break with a brown bag lunch in the museum’s courtyard. We’ll bike to the Larkspur ferry terminal (7 miles) and take the 1:40pm ferry to return to San Francisco by 2:30pm ($7.25 fare with Clipper Card). This ride will be 28 miles total. In order to make the ferry on time (the next ferry is not for another 3 hours!), riders should be comfortable riding at about a 10-13 mph pace, about the pace of the “green wave” synchronized traffic lights on Valencia Street.
